I have succeeded in tracing the TUCKER side of my family tree back to Mortehoe, in North Devon, England.
They were farmers, later moving to Georgeham and Croyde. They married into the BARNS/BARNES family, and, a visit to Georgeham churchyard determined that many of the family are lying there
Old Parish records indicated that successive registrars habitually recorded births, marriages, and deaths phonetically. Hence, spellings of TUKER:TOOKER and TUCKER.
Anyone interested in research in the North Devon area should contact Barnstaple Library, or the Records Office in Exeter. I have some information, limited to the areas stated, but now live in Canada and cannot assist "on the ground".
