: I am looking for informatin re : Mary Tooker from Rahway New Jersey. I think her father may have been Charles Tooker but I am not sure. She was the wife of Charles Merchant ( Of CT and NJ) and I think she died giving birth to her daughter Mary Merchant. I have her burial place in Rahway but not much else. She is my only Tooker link but is a direct ancestor. It has taken me 6 years of research to find her and I would LOVE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HER FAMILY.
: Thanks,

I AM A DIRECT DESCENDANT OF THE TOOKER, RAHWAY, N.J. LINE!!!
And I have landed a gold mine of information just last night. Let me share what I have here and please feel free to contact me directly.
I have copies of the 1850, 1860, 1880 census with a ton of Tookers. Starting upfront, my line starts with my great, great grandmother who was Hester Francis Tooker (Davis). Her parents were Johanna (Colclough) and Samuel Tooker. Samuel Tooker died in the battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863. Samuel's mother's name was Hester (buried in Rahway cemetary) father James R. Tooker.
Check the Rahway Public Cemetary for Tookers, there are a ton and I recognize a lot of siblings names from the list I have. You can get to the names on-line at
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nj/union/cemeteries/rahway.txt
From the census I can see that Hester Tooker Davis had a sister named Mary Elizabeth Tooker (Ritter).
Going back a generation to where I believe your relatives come in, William Tooker (my ggggrandfather's brother) had a wife Sarah, daughters Katie and Edna. A brother John (sister in law Margaret) and a neice Anna and nephew Samuel. This is where I got Samuel, William's and John's mother's name Ester (or Hester) since she lived with these people along with my ggggrandmother Johanna after Samuel died in the Civil War.
According to the 1850 census James and Ester Tooker had Mary 20, Samuel 13, Rachael E 12, Sarah F 12, Jacob 9, William 7 and John 7. Looks like two sets of twins. These were prolific people Please contact me if you need any help. Cheryl
